Alfie & Haathi Discover the Ocean (FREE) A magic bioscope takes Alfie and Haathi into the ocean and they learn about underwater animals.

Primary Grades

Crazy Gears ($1.99) * Best New App by App Store* Children manipulate gears, chains, rods, and pulleys, to pull themselves through each level, which teaches them how different mechanisms affect one another when constructing a machine.

Star Walk Kids ($2.99) Navigate through wonders of the night sky with Star Walk Kids and find out all there is to know about planets, stars, and constellations.

Brain Pop & Brain Pop, Jr. (FREE) I think I've already explained my love for Brain Pop. Here's another way to get more fun from them.

Secondary Grades

Leaf Snap (FREE) The first in a series of electronic field guides being developed by Columbia University, this app uses visual recognition software to help identify tree species from photographs or their leaves.

HudsonAlpha iCell (FREE) Gives students, teachers, and anyone interested in biology a 3D view inside a cell. Three types of cells (animal, plant & bacteria) are included. Each description can be viewed with three different levels of biological terminology from basic to advanced.

Monster Heart Medic (FREE) An adventure game where you must help diagnose a friendly monster and guide him on his path to a healthier life. Through animations, simulations, achievements, and arcade games, you will learn about the cardiovascular system.

Other Great (non-science) Apps our family loves:Splash Math (FREE for 20 questions per day) Self paced math practice program that sends weekly reports to your email to keep you informed of how your child is progressing. My oldest daughter isn't real fond of math, but still begs to play with this app.

GoldieBlox and the Movie Machine- (FREE) Make your own animated movie with this app. Draw, color, sticker, and photograph to create your own digital shorts. Fun for hours (even for adults).
